Building trust with the Feeld dating app: How a leading platform protects its community
How Feeld and Veriff partnered to fight fraud and build a dating platform where trusted interactions and user safety are paramount

About Feeld
Feeld is a dating app built for people who want space to explore relationships, intimacy and identity outside traditional norms. Its origins, community ethos and product design all center on providing a safe and expressive environment for people across queer, kink, and ethically non-monogamous communities. As a company, Feeld considers itself a community of communities and aims to provide members with the tools and protection they need to be fully themselves while connecting with others who share similar values.
As Lavina Lim, Product Lead, Core Experience, Feeld, describes: “Feeld is the dating app for the curious. And we define curious as people who are open minded and interested in dating outside of heteronormative practices.” She explains that members come from a wide variety of communities and identities, and that Feeld brings them together in “a really beautiful way where ultimately we just aim to create a more inclusive and honest space for people to meet.”
Feeld’s origins underscore how deeply the company understands the emotional context of dating and exploration. Lavina explains: “Feeld was actually started by Dimo and Anna, who are partners… They were actually seeking out a community to be able to be accepted with their new relationship dynamic and for Anna to explore her sexuality and couldn’t find one at the time. So Dimo created Feeld for them to find like minded people to explore with and next to.” Today, that founding story continues to inform product decisions that prioritize expression, discretion and psychological safety.
What business problem did Veriff solve for Feeld?
Across the dating industry, identity misrepresentation has long fueled issues such as catfishing, romance scams and general distrust between users. Feeld’s diverse community, which includes many people who rely heavily on discretion and safety, felt these issues acutely. The company had previously attempted manual verification processes, but these were time consuming and unsustainable for a small, self-funded team. Feeld needed a scalable way to confirm that members were who they claimed to be, without compromising the privacy needs of people for whom anonymity or partial anonymity is essential.
Lavina explains: “The dating industry as a whole is kind of plagued by this consistent problem of identity misrepresentation… bad actors pretending to be someone else that they aren’t and trying to catfish people, run romance scams and things like this.” She adds that the Feeld community had been asking for verification “as one of our biggest feature requests,” but manual methods were not viable, noting: “It just wasn’t something that was viable for us to manually support.”
As identity risks increased, the team recognized the urgency of delivering a trusted and secure experience for members experimenting with intimacy or exploring their identities. According to Lavina: “We really needed to solve the verification problem of making sure people understand: ‘hey, when I look at a profile, that is the person that they say they are’.” Implementing automated verification became a critical step in protecting users, reducing fraud, and reinforcing Feeld’s wider mission to offer agency, control and a sense of belonging.
“Verification is such a powerful tool for people to just see their community and understand, okay, I can trust who this person is.”
What made the difference to Feeld when choosing Veriff?
Feeld needed more than a verification API. The team needed an actively involved partner who understood that dating platforms require different edge-case handling than finance or mobility providers. Veriff’s willingness to collaborate, adapt, and guide the process played a significant role in Feeld’s decision.
Lavina explains: “Veriff actually was a standout choice for us because of the fact that they provide so much more support than just the tool of verification. We really needed someone who would work with us as a partner and not just hand over a tool.” She emphasizes how essential the hands on support was during implementation, particularly when designing how verification would appear and function within the unique Feeld ecosystem.
The integration process became a joint effort. “From the start, we really talked to the Veriff team to kind of give us a sense of the industry,” Lavina says. “It was a very integrated connection and conversation from the start, and they were thought partners for us.” Veriff’s team played a critical role during testing as well. “We have certain edge cases on Feeld,” she said. “So when we were testing, we were able to really showcase use cases that weren’t coming out of the box for Veriff.”
This close collaboration ensured a seamless rollout, avoided regressions, and strengthened Feeld’s confidence in verification from day one. Lavina adds: “Out the gate, it gave us a lot of confidence that we really tested this in a robust manner. There was no rollback and very little issue after we rolled this out.”
The Veriff team is really hands on, and that was something we really appreciated from the start.
What was the impact of implementing Veriff?
Since launching verification, Feeld has seen measurable improvements across user safety, trust signals, and operational efficiency. Verification adoption has increased consistently, with members responding positively to the added security and transparency. Lavina notes: “We are now at about 38 percent of our profiles verified, which is really great, not even being a year after we’ve implemented verification with Veriff.”
The presence of more verified profiles also quickly reduced concerns about fake users. According to Lavina: “A lot of the support tickets around ‘there’s a lot of fake profiles’ dropped pretty much about a month after we started verifying.” This reduction also contributed to improved sentiment in Feeld’s internal trust and safety score. “Our trust and safety score increased by 25 percent since we launched verification,” she explains.
Verification has had operational benefits as well. Feeld can now automate processes that once required manual intervention, including account recovery. Lavina describes it as “the gift that keeps on giving,” adding that verification is “really game changing for our internal customer support team.”
The introduction of verification has also influenced broader product strategy, prompting new safety features and contributing to stronger community norms. Lavina explains, “We can really continuously, positively improve the way that this community is able to see each other, find each other and understand and trust each other.” The success of the rollout has reinforced Feeld’s long-term investment in trust and safety and continues to shape future roadmap decisions.
