Jason has been working in recruitment for more than 10 years and has seen the job market through good and challenging times. We had a chat with him about his experience, thoughts on the current job market, and who he is hiring right now.

First and foremost, welcome to the team! How did you find your way to Veriff? Had you heard about us before?

Thank you! I am very excited to be here. I found my way to Veriff through Luke Govier, Head of Talent Acquisition; he found me through LinkedIn and for that, I am very thankful.

I started in recruitment and talent acquisition back in 2011 at a company called Aerotek, which is a client-based staffing firm, then pivoted to more IT staffing and recruiting, and from there I went corporate and worked in internal recruiting at Wells Fargo. To summarize, the majority of my career has been in talent acquisition and recruiting, and it’s been kind of a mix of everything - five years agency recruiting, six years corporate.

How did you end up in recruitment?

After not getting accepted into grad school in 2010, I was actually referred into a recruiting agency named Aerotek by a long time friend of mine, who was working there. At the time, I knew little about staffing firms and/or recruitment for that matter, but I enjoyed building relationships and after 2 successful internships in between college within logistics and sales, I figured I would give it a shot. I applied and the rest is history.

Now you’ve been in the industry for more than 10 years.

Yes, quite some time now. I guess time flies when you’re having fun. I always like to ask a lot of questions and to pick things apart by digging into people. When I was young I often found myself trying to find out about people and how they got to where they were. I really enjoyed picking people’s brains, so asking questions came naturally to me and I think that kind of spurred me to go down that route.

In your opinion, how has the recruitment industry changed during the past 10 to 12 years?

In the last 10 to 12 years we’ve seen technology and social media have a major impact on how companies recruit, attract, and retain talent; it has become much more of a virtual job market.  Companies are now using chatbots in the screening process and/or machine learning to prospect and engage with talent. And, of course, the interview and hiring process has transitioned; it used to be mostly conducted face to face in conference rooms or offices, but now it can be completed thousands of miles away via video interactions.

From a candidate perspective, it is definitely a job seeker’s market currently and there are an abundance of new positions. In my opinion, we’ve seen a shift in what matters most to candidates throughout the job search process and they are looking beyond the salary. Now they’re focusing on the work-life balance, company culture, remote work, company values and mission. When I entered the workforce in 2010, it was one of the worst job markets in a generation. Fast forward to current times, in March 2022 job openings reached a record high of 11.5 million in the U.S.

What’s your impression of working at Veriff so far?

Where do I begin, it’s unbelievable. It’s extremely fast paced and Veriff has a phenomenal culture. As soon as I started, I felt there was just like a “buzz” around the company and team. The onboarding process was seamless and everyone involved was very supportive. It’s been a wild ride so far and I think the sky's the limit!

You joined the team as a Senior Recruiter. Can you tell us a little bit about what exactly you do at Veriff?

My job is to oversee the hiring and talent acquisition process for Veriff’s Commercial Division.  Ultimately, I partner with stakeholders and leaders within those teams to find the best and brightest individuals as we scale our team.

Essentially my job is everything from creating the job descriptions to making sure we are filling the right roles and supporting candidates throughout the process. That’s a very quick summary but ultimately, I am representing the talent acquisition team in the U.S. and specifically for the commercial division.

So, to anyone reading this, who are you looking for right now?

The positions I support fall within the Commercial Division and will primarily focus on driving revenue, growing clients, and client support. We currently have a number of positions open within our Commercial Sales Team. It’s a very exciting time to join Veriff, and the most up-to-date information about our openings is on our careers page.

What makes a good candidate for you?

It’s a really good question, and I would say for me ideal candidates are ones that display a high level of integrity and trust; some of the skills and competencies that I look for in ideal candidates for the Commercial Sales Team would be: communication, interpersonal skills, business acumen, motivation, sales skills, work ethic, and adaptability.

At the end of the day, we are looking for rock stars that support their teammates and want to do good for the world!

To sum up, let’s do a speed round of questions:

Working remotely or in the office?

Remotely, but I’m hoping to go to the office more as I’ve been in a hybrid mode as well.
