About goUrban

goUrban's shared mobility operating system provides car, moped, e-bike and scooter-sharing operators with a data-driven, scalable mobility ecosystem. These services are offered worldwide - with thousands of users riding and driving daily via goUrban’s software. The software provider has rapidly evolved since their initial launch as a fleet operator in 2016 to become a trusted partner for shared mobility operators and cities worldwide.

What business problems did Veriff solve for goUrban?

Veriff has been supporting goUrban with driving licence verification since their initial launch as an e-moped fleet operator. Together, they built a platform that could navigate a mosaic of issues including the analysis of paper-based licences. While with their operations began exclusively in Austria, things got more complex when goUrban evolved into a global shared mobility software provider. Suddenly there was an international client base to provide for, each with unique nuances that needed catering to.

The complexity of managing the different documentations standards across European jurisdictions made for challenging work. Providers handling such data also have strict compliance requirements to fulfil, meaning Veriff and goUrban had to find robust and creative solutions to handle the intricacies of international licenses. In this case, the work involved a great deal of collaboration and frequent back and forth, to ensure the best possible outcome for goUrban and their clients.

Bojan Jukic, goUrban’s Chief Technology Officer and co-founder, said: “I have not yet found a problem that Veriff couldn’t solve through collaboration with our team. We have a complex use case where we have different driving licences standards across Europe and we need to ensure that everything works seamlessly and reliably for our clients. In the end, driving licence verification is not only important for the end user experience, but is an important tool in damage and fraud prevention for operators.”

What made the difference to goUrban when choosing Veriff?

When it came to working with goUrban, it was Veriff’s breadth and depth of document coverage that stood out the most. With a database of more than 11,300 government-issued documents from around the world, Veriff allows goUrban to verify customers no matter where in the world they’re from. Without that capability, the task of licence verification for goUrban’s clients would have been extremely manual and therefore prohibitively expensive.

goUrban also works with many operators who are looking to expand into new countries. Veriff’s documentation expertise allows goUrban to provide a tool that enables clients undergoing this kind of expansion to complete new license verification at the click of a button.

“The scalability factor is huge for our customers,” said Victor Gomez, Account Manager at goUrban. “They are always looking to expand their services into new markets and with Veriff we know that our clients will always be able to thrive in the onboarding of licences in different languages and from different parts of the world.”

Balancing fraud prevention with customer experience

It goes without saying that for mobility operators it’s essential that that the person driving the vehicle is legally permitted to drive, making a robust identity verification process vital. However, goUrban also believes that striking a balance between the operator and the end user’s needs is imperative. For example, not every client of goUrban requires a complete license verification process at the start of every ride, which means the process must be customizable based on the operator’s specific needs and desires.

Therefore, goUrban and Veriff explored alternative routes of reverification. Getting this right meant finding the sweet spot between fraud prevention, regulatory compliance, and user experience.

“The vehicle hire sector is hugely competitive,” explained Gomez. “And it can be difficult to get end users to sign up, so it’s vital that we offer a system that balances the right checks against a secure, slick and easy-to-use system. Anything too slow risks losing them, so Veriff’s speed of decision and the way their AI can deliver a result so quickly is crucial for our clients’ customers.”

“goUrban can now assure our clients that they can achieve high volumes of sales very quickly,” added Bojan. “Everything is digitized and customer friendly, making our offering scalable. It doesn’t matter how many users our partners want to onboard; the platforms are in place and ready to go.”
